District Closure - COVID 19

Hello School District of South Milwaukee Families,

On behalf of our entire staff, I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding of the evolving situation regarding school closures.  We miss your children! Our priority is always to provide the best educational resources to you and your children. Our decision to begin alternative learning activities beginning March 30 was to allow our staff enough time to prepare resources for you and your children that would allow minds-on learning to continue. In the meantime, we have created a digital resources page to access online activities for our elementary and middle school students.

We understand everyone is eager to continue the learning.  Each level (elementary, middle and high) has prepared learning activities and information may be coming out at slightly different times due to the nature of the activities.  We have outlined additional information for you below.

We want you to know that while schools may be closed we are still here for you and your children.  Please, feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or principal as needed. All of our teachers will be in communication with students soon.  Thank you again for what you are doing to support learning at home. Take care and be well!

The School District of South Milwaukee is closed March 14 - April 12, 2020. Please continue to check this webpage periodically for updated information. Important details will continue to be sent directly to families via email and phone numbers. MEAL INFORMATION We want to be sure to offer free meals to our students who depend on the schools for meals. Our School Nutrition Services Department will be providing “grab and go” lunches along with an additional breakfast offering that is shelf stable for the following morning for all of our students.  This option is available for children in South Milwaukee only.  Meals are not available for adults.

In order to be as safe as possible regarding food handling, there will be a limited menu each day. Meals may include items such as pre-wrapped ham/cheese sandwich or uncrustables sandwich (peanut butter/jelly), fruit, milk, and a pre-packaged breakfast with juice or similar items.

The meals will be free of charge and be provided Wednesday, March 18th through Friday, March 20th and again March 30th through April 10th, Monday-Friday, at the following sites at the following times:

Site Time Location
Blakewood, Door 8 11:00-11:30        Playground, drive up or walk up
Lakeview, Door 11 11:30 - 12:00 Staff Parking Lot, drive up or walk up
High School, Door 29 12:00 - 12:45 Door 29, drive up or walk up

Meals can be picked up at any location regardless of the school you attend. Our preferred method of delivery is drive up. Please follow the directions available to drive up to the table at the door indicated and take the number of lunches needed. Students may also walk to the locations. All visitors should leave the school property once the lunch is received.

Throughout this time, it is important to keep the social distancing of 6 feet that has been recommended by health professionals.  Equally important is to continue to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.  In distributing these meals, we are looking for students to take the meals and go home to eat.

Students will not be allowed to play on the playground.
